How they differ

  • Scale. SpaceX launches far more mass to orbit than any competitor and dominates commercial launch. Rocket Lab is a smaller, focused player that has carved out the small-satellite market.
  • Diversification. SpaceX has Starlink, a massive recurring-revenue internet business. Rocket Lab earns revenue from launches and from building satellite components and systems for others.
  • Reusability. SpaceX’s reusable Falcon 9 is a major cost advantage. Rocket Lab is working toward reusability and a larger rocket (Neutron).

What it means for investors

Rocket Lab gives investors a listed way to invest in the launch industry today. SPCX, if it lists, would be a much larger and more diversified business — but also potentially priced at a much higher valuation.

SPCX is not yet public. Mentioning RKLB is for comparison only and is not a recommendation.
